How to Make it Big as a DJ Response

So today I was tooling around the fresh page.com checking out what they had to offer and saw this post How to Make it Big as a DJ
This to me seems like a load of BS. I have been DJing for some time now and I can remember when I first started there were only 3 ways to get gigs.

1. Produce your own music that gets popular.

2. Throw your own parties/clubs.

3. Hope your friends throw paties/clubs and get them to book you.

And that is basically it.

The Fresh Page is claiming that you can make it big by paying them to put some mixes up on their site and by them promoting you. I doub’t it The Fresh Page only gets about 2,000 unique vistors per month to their website and I doubt many of those visitors are promoters or people in the know willing to pay some no name DJ to come out and play because they have a mix up.

This is especially true in this time period where DJ’s use software and computers rather than vinyl. Anymore a DJ doesn’t even have to know how to beatmatch or drop a record. Basic musical and DJ theory are out the window now that your computer can take care of everything for you. When listening to a mix how can you tell if it’s the talent of the DJ or just the software.

I think there possibly may be a 4th method on how to get gigs and I am struggling with myself wondering if I should share it…

I’m going to have to think about it maybe I will maybe I won’t because no one is doing it right now and it involves mad skills other than those needed to rock a party.
